Of Dark Design

This is a fan made expansion for Eldritch Horror Board Game on its 10th Anniversary.  It is geared for a harder difficulty that makes you fear a brown mythos card on a red omen space.  It uses Focus, Impairment and Resource options from other expansions but you could substitute something else for those tokens if still wish to enjoy the Expansion.  Most of the expansion is stand alone with core set.   Until I do encounter cards for Devastated areas, Cities of Ruin expansion needed.

This expansion contains Cthugha, Nyogtha, Nodens, Zoth-Ommog and Great God Pan.  There are new location encounters, conditions,  disasters, assets, artifacts, spells, exhibit assets  unique assets, scientific assets, monsters and investigators.

Rules

Ancient Whispers

On set-up, place the "Ancient Whispers" token on Arkham.

An investigator on a space containing the Ancient Whispers marker may draw an Exhibit encounter. They resolve the encounter and then the card will say on the bottom where the token is moved to.

Devastation Encounters

Some effects in this expansion, notably those of Disasters, can cause named City spaces to be devastated.

When a space is devastated, discard all Clues and defeated investigator tokens on that space, search the Expedition Encounter deck for each card that corresponds to that space and return them to the game box, then place a Devastation token on the space.

- If a Clue would be spawned on a devastated space, discard that Clue instead. 

-A Clue cannot be moved to a devastated space.

-A devastated space does not have a space type; it is no longer a City space.

-An investigator on a devastated space cannot resolve a General Encounter or a location encounter that corresponds to his space.  Instead, during the Encounter Phase, an investigator on a devastated space may encounter that space by drawing and resolving the top card of the Devastation Encounter deck.

-Devastation Encounters are complex encounters that may require an investigator to resolve multiple tests.

- If all nine named City spaces on the main board would be devastated, the investigators lose the game.

-New Rule: Ancient Whispers can not be on a devasted area, if the Ancient Whispers is on such a space, move it to a random City.

New Traits

Ally - Cat [Unique Asset]

These are cats of Ulthar of the dreamlands that would help guide investigators.

Ghost

Monster considered the Ghost monster in terms of game effects.

Piranha

Monster considered the Piranha monster in terms of game effects.

Overbearing

Does damage that unavoidable unless sometimes special circumstances.

Unnamable

Can not use focus or clues in combat.

Lantern or Radio

Trait that may be asked on a card to succeed.

Lantern Asset is consider to have the Lantern trait.


New Conditions

Burned

New injury condition that prevents health restoration from rest.  If you get another burned condition you take 2 health loss.  On reaction the card flips.

Eye Injury

New injury condition that makes only 6 count as successes for observation. On reaction the card strength test or flips.

Carrier

New illness that does not allow you to rest if you have a pursuit.  on rec influence test or flips the card.

Gates

If a space contains more then one gate, they treated no different in monster surge application and only one can be chosen to be encountered at a time.

Age of Air Travel

Air travel becoming more viable as far away cities are only a zeppelin away.

Zeppelin only received via card or ability that specifies zeppelin ticket or ANY travel ticket.

Zeppelin in this expansion is used as similar tickets after doing a move action, can spend a zeppelin if in a city location and can move two additional spaces to a city destination.  Sometimes there more then one wilderness or sea space between two cities, in this case you can move additional space.  Rome to Buenos Aires, space 14 to Tokyo or Alaska are examples.  Zeppelins must always start and end on a city space.

Caravan tickets only gain in cities that have uncharted path and cards or abilities that specifies caravan or any ticket.  They can be spent after a move action to move along uncharted path.

Pulp Combat

To give a more action-feel in combat, showing feats of strength or desperation.

  Investigate can roll with just their base Skill with improvements/impairments, then can add cards, component abilities and rerolls one at a time.

Example1: So if investigator attacks a cultist with toughness of one, the investigator just rolls their base skill first as he literally just punches the Cultist if succeed on just that roll.  If the monster is not dead, they can choose a component and roll those extra dice, if failing can choose another that might give him additional dice or reroll and repeat.  The rules to how skill bonus stack, still are in effect.

Future Info

Eventually this expansion will be on boardgeek, i still have mythos,  more location encounters, extra Nodens research, even more conditions, rest of my call of cthulhu investigators and their backstories, prelude, relationship cards.  Maybe new gates, and gate cards.

This was released for Eldritch Horror's 10th Anniversary.  This expansion is based on my group's Call of Cthulhu games, so you might notice some call backs to scenarios and each of these Investigators were in our games.  I have not tested character backstory cards because our group do not use them.

My wife has terminal  cancer and this expansion was made for her and fun experiences we had when playing Eldritch Horror and Call of Cthulhu TTRPG for ten years.


   I will be updating this expansion somewhat frequently, until all types are cards are covered and expanded upon (Mythos, locations, mystic ruins, new gates, rest of investigators from my tabletop)
